Origins - Festival of First Nations
The Meaning of Life - (9 May – British Museum 2.30pm)
Over half the men in the Kwìkwèxwelhp prison are from First Nations backgrounds. The others have agreed to accept indigenous
spirituality and community as central elements in their rehabilitation programme.
Most are serving life sentences: all are struggling to find meaning in lives which have gone agonizingly,
terrifyingly wrong. Hugh Brody's film explores vulnerable and violent aspects of society: childhood abuse,
residential schools, the violence of the streets.
But it also serves as a testimony to the healing power of First Nations culture.
Followed by a Q&A with Tommo Brody.
